A team of three young Rwandan innovators has won the prestigious African Innovation Award for their solar-powered irrigation system that uses IoT sensors to optimize water usage. The system, called "SmartDrip," reduces water consumption by 60% while increasing crop yields by 40%.

The team, comprising two graduates of the African Leadership University and one from IPRC Kigali, received a $50,000 prize and mentorship from Silicon Valley investors. SmartDrip is already being piloted in 12 farming cooperatives across five districts.
